Moscow is not only the capital of Russia but a city rich in history, with numerous world renowned historical and architectural monuments. Many historical events are linked to Moscow and played a deciding role in the country's fate.
The historical heart of the city is, of course, the Moscow Kremlin alongside Red Square and St Basil's Cathedral. In addition, Moscow has 74 museums, including the Museum of History, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, the Tretyakov Gallery and the Museum of the Armed Forces, all of which astound one with the variety of their collections. Worth special mention is the Museum of the City of Moscow whose exhibits give the best insight into the history of the capital.
Moscow is the cultural centre of Russia with over 60 professional theatres which include: The Bolshoi Theatre, The Maly Theatre, MkhAT Chekhov, MkhAT Gorky, the Bakhtangov, the Ermolova, the Mayakovsky, Mossoveta, Satiricon, Satire, Sovremennik, Lencom, The Theatre on Taganka, The Central Theatre of the Russian Army, The Russian Youth Theatre and the Central Puppet Theatre.
Other sights include Church of the Ascension at Kolomenskoe, Andronikov Donskov architectural complex, St Danilov's Monastery, New Maidens' Convent, as well as Ostankino Television Tower, Kuzminiki, Tsaritsino Park. Several residential and public buildings are also architecturally distinguished by their classical style; one of these is Pashkov House which, to this day, acts as a branch of the Russian State Library. Another is the original building of Moscow State University and the Bolshoi Theatre.
Above all, Moscow is a very hospitable city which warmly welcomes all visitors.
