One of the oldest cities in Russia, Uglich was founded in the year 937 and the town holds many architectural and historical monuments, such as: the Kremlin on the banks of the Volga with two storey brick Princes Chambers; the Transfiguration Cathedral; Church of the St Dimitry on the Blood; Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist (1683 - 1690); Church of Our Lady of Kazan (1788); Church of Our Lady of Korsunska (1730). You can also visit the Alekseev, Ressurection and Descension Monasteries and see many local monuments from the 17th - 19th centuries.
